С 1 января 2018 года председательство в Совете ЕС на полгода переходит к Болгарии. Через десять лет после вступления в члены ЕС это вызов, который жители самой бедной страны Европы встречают со смешанными чувствами, пишет корреспондент швейцарской газеты Le Temps в Софии Александр Леви.

В конце декабря все уже считают не дни, а часы до этого момента, ожидаемого одновременно с рвением и боязнью: начиная с 1 января председательство в Евросоюзе переходит к Болгарии. Мы находимся в Национальном дворце культуры (НДК) Софии, в гигантском восьмиугольном мраморном сооружении, унаследованном от коммунистической эпохи, которое на ближайшие полгода было выбрано в качестве места для приемов и организационных мероприятий на территории Болгарии. "Не забывайте, что вы будете первыми лицами, которые увидят наши гости. И их впечатление о нашей стране будет зависеть от вас, поскольку первое впечатление часто становится последним", - говорит замминистра иностранных дел Евгения Колданова, выступая перед молодыми волонтерами.

С 18 января болгарская столица должна принять множество делегаций: комиссаров, министров, различных чиновников и отряды журналистов. Всего около 22 тыс. человек, которых нужно расселить, накормить и организовать им сопровождение. От всего этого организаторов бросает в холодный пот. Молодые люди предложили свои услуги, чтобы прийти на помощь в качестве переводчиков, встречающих, курьеров, передает автор. По мнению Евгении Колдановой, их присутствие, несомненно, является наилучшим показателем европейского рвения болгар: на 176 мест претендентов было вдвое больше, и это в стране, остающейся самой бедной в ЕС. "Работа на общественных началах у нас не очень популярна", - признается она.

"Это демонстрирует то, что мы пришли на встречу с историей", - гордо говорит 21-летняя Лидия, студентка 3-го курса Софийского университета.

В мрачных коридорах старого тоталитарного дворца их слова звучат, как тихий реванш судьбы, комментирует Леви. Дворец был построен в 1981 году в ознаменование 1300-летия возникновения первого болгарского государства и по-прежнему вызывает у жителей Софии смешанные чувства. Для большинства из них это строение остается одной из причуд Людмилы, дочери диктатора Тодора Живкова, одержимой страстью к почестям, - несколько лет дворец носил ее имя. Политолог Евгений Дайнов, дитя этой эпохи, описывает НДК как "гигантского тарантула, выскочившего из недр земли", готового проглотить город. Он не понимает, как болгарские руководители могли выбрать такое "проклятое", на его взгляд, место в качестве символа их председательства в ЕС. Впрочем, волонтеры тоже смущены: как представить НДК иностранцам? Организаторы, в свою очередь, отстаивают впечатляющие технические характеристики (восьмиэтажный НДК занимает площадь в 18,3 тыс. кв. км), уточняя по поводу памяти о коммунизме, что "каждый вправе думать, что хочет".
