Songs from Amara prema

This week we added 4 songs from the film 'Amara prema' released in 1978. Kamal Hasan and Zarina wahab played the lead roles, Tatineni Ramarao is the director and Chakravarti is the Music Director. I am not sure whether this film was a remake of any Tamil film but was made after the super success of 'Maro charitra'.

This film reminds me of my Intermediate days and then friend V.Srinivas who was one of the class toppers. He liked the film and the heroine Zarina wahab so much that we watched the movie together 3 times skipping the classes. He would have watched it alone another 2 or 3 times. I would like to dedicate these songs to him!

As far as I remember the story, Kamal and Zarina love each other and marry without the acceptance of their parents. Zarina encourages Kamal to appear for IAS, By the time he finishes that, Zarina is traced with cancer and finally dies. The struggle they undergo in the film is so touching to watch, but unfortunately the film didn't do that well at the box office.

Finally a word about Chakravarti's music, the film has haunting music. I am not sure whether any tunes are copied, but they definitely have the 70's magic touch of Chakravarti!

Some of the tunes were copied: baala pavurama was copied from Tamil and Paala Mabbula was copied from a very popular Malayalam song (I think the MD for that is Salil Choudhary).

I found the link. It is a Malayalam movie by name Madanotsavam.

It lists Kamal and Zarina as the actors and Salil Choudhary as MD. It could be the same movie. Most likely Malayalam original and remade into Telugu. The tunes have a distinct signature of Salil Choudhary.

3 of the 4 songs, 'ee priyuraliki...', 'Bala pavurama...' and 'Pala mabbula...' are originally Salil Choudary's tunes from the Malayalam film 'Madanostavam!

So only 'Bujji papa kavala...' is typically Chakravarti's. May be the film would have been dubbed with little modifications. The year of release is 1978 for both films.
